Thomson was appointed captain of Bristol Rovers following the departure of Thomson Tillson shortly before the start of 2000-01.
A key figure in the early games, he then had the misfortune to suffer a stress fracture of his foot in September and this kept him out of action for several weeks.
He netted his only goal of the campaign in the 2-2 draw with Reading on Boxing Day and went on to form a useful defensive partnership with Steve Foster and Scott Jones in the second half of the campaign.
A strong and determined central defender, he is always a threat to opposition defences when joining the attack at set-pieces and corners.
Thomson went on the Bristol Rovers transfer list in March 2002.
