Sambrook came through the youth ranks at Gillingham but opted for a scholarship in America rather than signing. Having completed his spell in the USA, he was playing with the reserves prior to signing a short-term contract on deadline day in 2001.
He agreed a new two-year contract with Rushden & Diamonds in May 2003.
