Martin is a young striker who scored regularly for Crystal Palace's reserve side in 2000-01. His first-team experience was limited to the final four minutes of extra time in the Worthington Cup Round Four tie against Tranmere. However he had the satisfaction of scoring from his penalty kick as the Eagles won the shoot out on their way to an eventual semi-final tie against Liverpool.
