A perfectly competent centre-back, Andy became an Arsenal folk hero in an instant with his last gasp winner in the 1993 FA Cup Final.
Vastly experienced with over 600 appearances for his various clubs. This veteran central defender signed a new one-year contract for Crystal Palace in the summer of 2000 but found himself edged out of the starting line-up by new signing Neil Ruddock. Andy featured just three times for the Eagles but managed to hit the vital last-minute equaliser in the Worthington Cup second round second leg tie against Burnley which earned his team victory on the away goals ruling. His contract was later cancelled by mutual consent and he signed for Second Division Oxford United where he went straight in the first team. He enjoyed a decent unbroken run before dropping out of contention only to return to make a final sentimental appearance from the subs' bench towards the end of the campaign, thus enabling him to enter the record books as the oldest player to appear in Football League action for the U's. Despite his years Andy continued to perform consistently and was still effective in the air, while his vast experience proved invaluable in helping his young team-mates at the Manor Ground. He was released in the summer of 2001 and joined St Albans City.
