Liddell played an important role for Wigan Athletic in their push for promotion in 2000-01.

A talented striker who can make as well as score goals, he regularly unlocked defences for his colleagues with his unselfish running.

He netted ten goals during the season including a great 30-yard strike against Northampton Town in September.

Liddell was made available for transfer by Sheffield United in June 2005.

He joined Oldham Athletic in a three-year deal that was extended to June 2009 in May 2008 but cancelled in April 2009.

Liddell joined Rotherham United in August 2009 on a monthly contract that was soon extended to June 2010.
