Impey was the first-choice right wing back for Leicester City for much of the 2000-01 season and was particularly impressive during City's excellent early run when he seemed to adapt very quickly to the requirements of the new Peter Taylor regime. He seemed less effective after returning from injury in the spring when the whole team was suffering from a more general malaise, but turned in a useful performance at left back in the Easter defeat by Manchester City.
Impey joined Nottingham Forest in July 2004 on a one-year contract but was made available for transfer in January 2005. He joined Coventry City in September 2005 on non-contract terms.
