Hughes featured regularly in the Notts County squad in 2000-01 although he spent some time on the subs bench.
A talented right-sided midfielder, his lightning bursts down the flank enthused the Meadow Lane faithful and he contributed a number of valuable goals.
The Magpies penalty expert, he was out of contract in the summer of 2001.
Hughes joined Norwich City in July 2005 with a three-year contract.
He joined Leeds United in August 2007 with a two-year contract that was extended to June 2010 in March 2009 and to June 2011 in May 2010.
Hughes joined Scunthorpe United in January 2011 with a contract to June 2012.
He joined Charlton Athletic in August 2011 with a two-year contract that was extended to June 2014 in May 2013.
Hughes joined Bolton Wanderers in July 2014 as a player / coach.
