Gurney was a regular in the Reading squad in the first half of the 2000-01 campaign and scored a cracking goal from 20 yards in the 3-0 win over Cambridge United before being edged out of the side in the New Year.
He rarely featured thereafter but was recalled for the two Play-Off semi-finals against Wigan Athletic when he performed well.
An experienced right wing back, he is very effective pushing down the flank and always gives 100% for the cause.
He was given a free transfer by the Royals at the end of the season.
Gurney was awarded a new two-year contract by Swindon Town in May 2003 before joining Swansea City in September 2004 in a three-year deal but was made available for transfer in May 2005.
After a loan spell, Gurney returned to Swindon Town in January 2006 with a contract to June 2007.
Gurney announced his retirement in November 2006 due to an ankle injury.
