Collett made the Darlington goalkeeping spot his own last season despite stiff competition from Dutch understudy Frank Van Der Geest. He made some brilliant saves including a penalty stop from Benito Carbone in the Worthington Cup tie against Bradford City, while he almost single-handedly denied Hartlepool a win in the local 'derby' at Feethams. However he broke a thumb during his heroics in the latter game and was forced onto the sidelines for the next seven games before returning to the side for the last few games of the campaign.
