Mumford joined Swansea City from League of Wales outfit Llanelli on a 12-month contract in July 2000 and, after enjoying loan spells with Haverfordwest and Port Talbot, he stepped up to make his Football League debut from the subs' bench at Port Vale on Easter Monday when he appeared in an unfamiliar striker's role.
He subsequently made a handful more appearance in central midfield where he looked very promising.
Mumford was made available for transfer by Swansea City in May 2003.
