Arendse made a name for himself in the domestic league playing for the Cape Town Spurs and his performances brought him to the notice of the national team and he made his international debut in November 1995 against Zambia. Fulham signed him in the summer of 1997 but he could not break into the first team and after two seasons he joined Oxford United. During this time he remained first choice for Bafana Bafana he gained an African Nations Cup winners medal in 1996 but has rarely been first choice in recent seasons after withdrawing from the 1998 World Cup Finals with injury. He left Oxford United to return to South Africa in June 2000 to play for Santos in Cape Town. A solid shot stopper he will play second fiddle to Hans Vonk.
