An excellent performer in midfield, he added strength to Newcastle United's middle line during his 18 months on Tyneside.
A product of the youth system at Auxerre, he established himself as a regular in 2000.
He made his Senegal debut in the 2002 World Cup qualification match against Egypt.
He made the squad for the African Nations' Cup Finals making one appearance and coming on as a substitute in the Final where his penalty in the shoot-out was saved.
Amdy joined Newcastle United in January 2005 with a contract to June 2009.
He joined Charlton Athletic in August 2006 with a three-year contract.
Amdy joined Stoke City in August 2008 with a one-year contract.
He joined Leeds United in September 2010 with a contract to January 2011.
