Tankard featured regularly for Port Vale in the first half of last season but was mostly confined to the subs' bench in the second half of the campaign. Generally used on the left-hand side of a three-man defence he still managed to find time to net five goals including one in the LDV Vans Trophy victory over Darlington.
Tankard's Mansfield contract was cancelled by mutual consent in February 2003.
