Boumnijel spent most of his career at Gueugnon, spent a year at Nancy before returning to Gueugnon in the summer of 1992. He stayed for another six seasons before joining Bastia in the winter of 1997.
He made his international debut soon after and was back up goalkeeper in the 1998 World Cup Finals.
