Mendez scored on his Arsenal debut in a 4-1 win against Birmingham City in the Coca-Cola League Cup in October 1997.

After spending the previous season on loan in his homeland with Bundesliga side Sp Vgg Unterhaching, Mendez remained very much a fringe player at Arsenal in the 2000-01 season. Although he featured regularly for the reserves, his only senior outing came in the Worthington Cup third round tie against Ipswich when he replaced Jermaine Pennant for the final 30 minutes. An experienced left-sided midfield player he has good pace and excellent close skills.
