After coming through a torrid period with injuries, this talented youngster appeared regularly in Leeds United's reserve team in 2000-01, and in October he joined Crewe Alexandra on loan.
He played in half-a-dozen First Division games at right back for the Gresty Road club before his four-week loan spell was up and showed some impressive form.
On his return to Elland Road, he made a single first-team appearance, featuring on the right-hand side of midfield in a much-changed line-up for the 3-3 Champions' League draw with Lazio in March, when the club had already qualified for the quarter-finals.
Alan joined Leicester City in January 2005 with a contract to June 2008.
He was made available for transfer by the Foxes in January 2008.
Alan joined Colchester United in December 2008 with a contract to June 2009.
