A sprightly wing man who replaced Steve Coppell in the 1983 FA Cup Final (and replay), but injury hampered his progress.
A star youngster at Manchester United, only brief glimpses were seen of Alan's dazzling talents at Newcastle United.
He died in tragic circumstances at the age of 31.
