Dave Sexton's first signing for £ 100,000 from Sheffield United in November 1967. A cultured left foot his career at Chelsea was interupted by several serios injuries. He was unfortunate that whilst he was injured Ian Hutchinson established himself in the first team and Alan left for Crystal Palace in the same deal as Bobby Tambling in June 1970.
