A combative central midfielder he is coming towards the end of a long career. He began at Marseille in 1989 and stayed for three seasons before leaving to play for Istres. He stayed one season then after playing in 1993-1994 for Marseilles left for Italy when he signed for Napoli in the summer of 1994. He won international recognition making his international debut in October 1997 against South Africa. His appearances have been restricted by injury and he left Napoli to play for Sampdoria but lasted only one season before moving to Parma in 1998. He played in the 1998 World Cup Finals but missed Euro 2000 with injury. His consistency will earn him a place on the bench.
