Adrian Whitbread

Close on 400 appearances for his various clubs. Having been captain at Portsmouth in the 1999-2000 campaign Adrian found himself surplus to requirements last term and in November new Luton boss Lil Fuccillo snapped him up to try and plug a leaking defence. The move was a success but attempts to make the deal permanent fell through and he subsequently returned to Fratton Park before joining Reading on loan where he also did well. He established a very effective central defensive partnership with Adrian Viveash and was a key figure in the Royals' line-up to the extent that they lost just two of the 19 games in which he appeared. Unfortunately, his loan period could not be extended to cover the play-off matches, but he later joined the club on a two-year contract. He is a solid and dependable central defender who is an excellent man-marker and a good motivator of his colleagues in the back line.

Adrian was forced to retire from senior football in April 2003 due to a knee injury.
