Having broken into the Sheffield United team in 1999-2000 Adam continued his football education with the reserves in 2000-01 apart from a couple of early outings from the subs' bench. He spent time on loan with Nigel Clough's Burton Albion in the new year and was a member of the Blades' successful reserve team that won the Avon Insurance league and cup double.
