A pioneer of African football, on and off the field. Abédi Pelé helped Ghana win the African Nations Cup in 1982. With Marseilles he won the Champions League 1992/93. He was African Player of the Year in 1991, 1992 and 1993.

Since retirement he has served on the player status committees of FIFA and CAF, Spokesman for the South African FA 2006 World Cup bid and was offered Chairmanship of the Ghanian FA. He runs his own club, FC Nania.
