Unable to get a game at Aston Villa, Aaron moved down a division to join Sheffield Wednesday in October 2000 and proved a useful acquisition for Owls' boss Paul Jewell.

He made his debut in midfield against West Bromwich Albion but showed his versatility when covering at full back when required.

Quick and full of enthusiasm, he put in some effective challenges wherever he played.

Aaron, who is the older brother of Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott, signed a new two-year contract with Stockport County in July 2003 but was made available for transfer in January 2004.

He joined Bristol Rovers in August 2004 with a six-month contract.

This was extended to June 2006 in July 2005 then to June 2007 in June 2006.

Aaron joined Walsall in July 2010 with a one-year contract.
