Ingimarsson began the 2000-01 campaign as an attacking central midfield player for Brentford but made an early-season switch to centre back where he proved to be a revelation.
He performed very much in the style of fellow countryman Hermann Hreidarsson, another former player for the Griffin Park club.
He performed equally well in both positions, putting his passing skills and excellent positional sense to good use.
Ingimarsson won a runners-up medal in the LDV Vans Trophy when he appeared for the Bees in the 2-1 defeat by Port Vale in April 2001 and added a further cap for Iceland when he appeared in the friendly fixture with Poland in November 2000.
Ingimarsson became his former Brentford manager Steve Coppell's first signing for Reading when he joined the Royals in October 2003 on a three-year contract.
It was extended to June 2008 in November 2005, then to June 2009 in November 2006, to June 2010 in July 2007 and to June 2011 in May 2010.
Ingimarsson joined Ipswich Town in July 2011 with a one-year contract that was cancelled in January 2012.
