Comments:

League position: 10th Salomon Rondon scored a Premier League goal at The Hawthorns for the first time since 14 December 2016 (in a hat-trick against Swansea City), so ending a run of 13 home Premier League appearances without a goal. West Bromwich Albion had now gone 40 Premier League games without being awarded a penalty; the longest current such run in the competition. The Baggies had now taken three points from their last five games in the Premier League. West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis said: "We worked very hard on defending set-plays, and the lads have done brilliantly today. The amount of balls Watford get in the box, long throws, they play long angled passes, they do really load it up. With Andre Gray on at the end, they are physically strong but I thought we coped really well. I don't think Ben Foster had a shot to save really."

Comments:

League position: 5th Abdoulaye Doucoure had now scored three goals in seven Premier League appearances for Watford so far in this season. The only top division campaign when he had scored more was in 2013-14 (six in 20 games) for Rennes in Ligue 1. Watford failed in their attempt to win their first four away games in a league season for the third time in their history (also 1978 in League Division Three and 1996 in League Division 2). After losing their last six games of the 2016-17 season, the Hornets had now lost one of their seven Premier League games so far in 2017-18 (won three). Watford manager Marco Silva said: "It’s great spirit and it’s a great result. After 2-0 it looks a very, very good result, but I think everybody that was in the stadium and watching the game on TV will believe our team deserved to take a good result this afternoon. I think we started well. Some moments we were too slow but we came here to play our game."
