League position: 13th Troy Deeney became the joint fourth highest goalscorer in Watford's history, equal with Cliff Holton on 105 goals in all competitions. He also became the fourth player to score 100 league goals for the club after Luther Blissett (148), Tommy Barnett (144) Ross Jenkins (118). The Hornets had lost only one of their preceding six home games in the Premier League. They had now kept a clean sheet in only one of their last 17 Premier League games. Watford manager Walter Mazzarri said: "There were some bad defensive mistakes, but I would not say it was a bad performance, we deserved the draw and had a chance to go for the win to make it 3-2." Abdoulaye Doucouré scored in the fourth minute of added time in the second-half.

League position: 10th Following a 4-0 win at Sunderland, Southampton had now scored four goals or more in consecutive away games in the top division for the first time in their history. They had now scored three or more goals in each of their four away wins in the Premier League in this season. Manolo Gabbiadini became the first Saints player to score in each of his first three Premier League games for the club. Manager Claude Puel said: "It was important to get a good result after our big disappointment against Manchester United [EFL Cup Final]. It was important my players showed their character to come back from a goal down, they played directly, we kept concentration and we recovered and played good football and scored beautiful goals." Nathan Redmond scored in the second minute of added time in the first-half.
