Comments:

League position: 16th Although Watford had now failed to score in four of their last six games in the Premier League, they had scored nine goals in the other two. The Hornets extended their club record to 22 consecutive games in the top division without keeping a clean sheet. They became the second newly-promoted team to score four or more goals against Manchester United in a game in the Premier League after Leicester City on 21 September 2014 (5-3). Kiko Femenía scored after seven minutes but the goal was disallowed after a VAR review due to encroachment from a penalty. João Pedro scored Watford's third goal in the second minute of added time at the end of the game before Emmanuel Dennis added their fourth four minutes later.

Comments:

League position: 7th Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær was sacked the day after this game. Manchester United won 91 of his 168 games in charge in all competitions (lost 40). After 12 games, United had now conceded more goals than they had scored so far in this Premier League season (20 for, 21 against). In the competition's history, only Liverpool in 2006-07 had overcome such a situation at this stage of a season to eventually finish in the top four (14 for, 15 against). They had now lost five of their last seven games in the Premier League games and conceded 15 goals in the last five. This was the Red Devils' biggest league defeat against a newly promoted since a 5-1 loss at Manchester City in League Division One on 23 September 1989. Luke Shaw's replacement after 85 minutes was regarded as a concussion substitution, therefore allowing both teams the possibility to make four substitutions during the game.
