Comments:

League position: 17th This was the biggest win by a team in the relegation zone against the leaders of the top division since Leicester City's 3-0 win against Manchester United in League Division One on 23 November 1985. Watford ended their run of five games without a win in the Premier League (lost three). The Hornets had now won three games in this Premier League season by a 3-0 margin; also versus Aston Villa on 28 December 2019 and at AFC Bournemouth on 12 January 2020. Prior to this game, Ismaïla Sarr had scored three goals in 17 appearances in the Premier League. This was the first time that Watford had beaten the team at the top of the top division since they beat Liverpool at Vicarage Road on the final day of the 1982-83 season as they finished as runners-up to the Reds in League Division One.

Comments:

League position: 1st This defeat ended Liverpool's 44-game unbeaten run in the Premier League since January 2019. Arsenal retained their 'Invincibles' tag with the competition record run of 49 games unbeaten from May 2003 to October 2004. If the Reds had won this game, they would have created a new all-time record of 19 consecutive wins in the top division (so equalled Manchester City's 18-game run from August to December in 2017 in the Premier League). They would have also equalled the record for the most consecutive wins (19) in the top five European leagues set by Bayern München in the Bundesliga from October 2013 to March 2014. Liverpool conceded three or more goals in a game in the Premier League for first time since their 4-3 win against Crystal Palace on 19 January 2019. This was the first time that the Reds had failed to score in their last 37 games in the Premier League since March 2019. This was their heaviest defeat in the Premier League since a 4-1 loss at Tottenham Hotspur on 22 October 2017.
