League position: 16th Following the sacking of Xisco, this was Claudio Ranieri's first game in charge of Watford. This defeat was the heaviest in a manager's first game at a club in the Premier League since a 6-1 loss by Alan Smith's Crystal Palace against Liverpool in August 1994. This was the Hornets' biggest home defeat since a 6-0 loss to Manchester City in the Premier League on 16 September 2017. They had now failed to keep a clean sheet in 18 home games in the Premier League since their 3-0 win against Liverpool in February 2020.

Sadio Mané became the 31st player to score 100 goals in the Premier League (21 for Southampton and 79 for Liverpool) but only the third to do so without scoring a penalty after Les Ferdinand and Emile Heskey.
