Kick-off: 7.00pm local (7.00pm CT) In a must-win game for the States, Costa Rica had a lively start - but the USA's first attack led to a penalty which Dempsey put away confidently, giving him a total of 50 international goals to date and equaling Landon Donovan's record. Towards the end of a thrilling first half, Dempsey, somewhat controversially, shoved his way past Acosta and created a chance for Jones who drilled the ball into the back of the net from distance. Apparently intent on burying Costa Rica before half time, Bobby Wood turned on the edge of the area and knocked another in on 42 minutes. After an exemplary performance, Dempsey was taken off on a heroes reception on 78 minutes. Costa Rica managed to fashion a few chances in the second half, but never looked likely to overcome a three goal deficit, with USA just as likely to score on the counter -which substitute Zusi finally did on 87 minutes. The game ended with Óscar Ramírez in tears, whilst cries of "USA, USA" echoed around Soldier Field as the USA's Copa America campaign got back on track.
