Argentina had a dream start as they battled the USA for a place in the Copa America Centenario final - with Lavezzi scoring with a cushioned header from a beautiful Messi chip. On 32 minutes the irrepressible Messi scored himself - becoming Argentina's all-time leading goalscorer with 55 goals (beating Gabriael Batistuta's record) in the process. Five minutes into the second half and Argentina struck again through Higuain, all but confirming Klinsmann's men will be contesting third place in this tournament. The scorer of the first goal, Lavezzi, fell over an advertising hoarding and had to be taken off for treatment after 67 minutes. With four minutes of regulation time remaining, Messi unselfishly set up Higuain for his second goal. There was no shame for the USA in losing to the Argentina who are top of the FIFA rankings for a reason and clearly intent on winning their first major trophy since 1993.
