Comments:

Ukraine had lost their last six games at UEFA European Championship finals; the joint-longest such run in the competition along with Yugoslavia. Ukraine scored in the first-half of a game at the UEFA European Championship finals for the first time (played eight). Ukraine were awarded a penalty after 83 minutes for handball following a VAR review. Ruslan Malinovskyi's spot-kick was saved. Only one of the five penalties awarded so far at Euro 2020 had now been converted.

Comments:

This was North Macedonia's second game at a major tournament. Previously, they had not finished higher than fourth in their qualifying groups for a UEFA European Championship or FIFA World Cup. Including friendlies, North Macedonia had now scored in 14 of their 15 games so far in the 2020-21 season. When the nation’s record appearance holder Goran Pandev made his debut for North Macedonia in June 2001, Eljif Elmas – his strike partner in this game – was a one-year-old.
