Comments:

After losing two of their group games, Ukraine would now have to depend on results in other groups before knowing the outcome of their possible progress to the knockout stages as one of the best four third-placed teams. Ukraine failed in their attempt to win consecutive games at a major tournament since the group stages of the FIFA World Cup in 2006. They had now failed to keep a clean sheet in their nine games at UEFA European Championship finals.

Comments:

Having finished as the second placed team in Group C, Austria had now progressed to the knockout stages of a major tournament for the first time since the FIFA World Cup finals in 1982 in Spain. They had now won two of the nine games they had played at UEFA European Championship finals (lost five). Aged 21 years and 324 days, Christoph Baumgartner became the youngest-ever player to score for Austria in the UEFA European Championship finals.
