Comments:

League position: 4th This was the first time that Tottenham Hotspur had won a game in the Premier League after having a player sent-off since a 3-2 win at West Ham United on 23 September 2017. Harry Kane had now scored in six consecutive appearances in the Premier League against Southampton. Only Robin van Persie against Stoke City (eight), Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink against West Ham United (seven) and Romelu Lukaku against West Ham United (seven) had recorded longer such runs against an opponent in the division. Serge Aurier became the first Spurs player to be sent off in a home game in the Premier League since Kyle Naughton against Stoke City on 9 November 2014.

Comments:

League position: 14th Since the start of the previous season, Southampton had now scored and conceded goals in 29 games in the Premier League; only Arsenal had done so in more games (31). Danny Ings' goal meant that the Saints had become the last team to score in the first-half of a game in this Premier League season. They failed in their attempt to win three consecutive away games in the Premier League for the first time since February 2015. Cédric Soares was originally named in the starting line-up before suffering an injury in the pre-match warm-up. Jannik Vestergaard was promoted to the starting XI so Southampton named only six of a possible seven substitutes.
