Kick-Off: 15:00 Local (14:00 BST) Assistant referees: Amelio Andino (Paraguay) Manuel Bernal (Paraguay) Fourth official: Mohamed Guezzaz (Morocco) Fifth official: Brahim Djezzar (Algeria) Switzerland stepped up their bid for a place in the knock-out stages and ended Togo's campaign thanks to goals from Alexander Frei and Tranquillo Barnetta. Rennes striker Frei neatly stabbed home the unmarked Barnetta's cross from close-range after 17 minutes. Togo were denied a decent penalty claim when Emmanuel Adebayor was chopped down and Mohammed Kader twice went close. But despite a sustained spell of Togo pressure, Barnetta rifled in late on to send the World Cup debutants home. After the 2-1 defeat to South Korea in their first match, the African side needed to avoid defeat in Dortmund to stand any chance of getting out of the group. This was Togo's first meeting with Switzerland at any level.

Comments:

Togo's players had threatened to boycott this game due a continuing pay dispute. Due to a second yellow card, Alaixys Romao will miss Togo's final group game against France.

Comments:

The opening goal by Alexandre Frei was Switzerland's first in the World Cup finals since Georges Bregy completed the scoring in their 4-1 win against Romania at Detroit in the 1994 finals. Having failed to keep a clean sheet in their record first 22 World Cup final matches, Switzerland have now kept two in a row.
