Comments:

League position: 15th Stoke City had now won only three of their last 16 Premier League games. The Potters had now lost seven of their last 11 home games in the Premier League against last season's top six (won one). They had failed to score in two of their last nine games in the Premier League. Stoke City manager Mark Hughes said: "Second half… Chelsea do what they do, they are very much a reflection of their manager in terms of managing games, they were quite happy at 2-0. I think the management of the game could’ve been asked questions of, certainly by the referee, I think he allowed them to stop the game and stop all momentum. He made a call in terms of Alonso who could’ve been sent off – should’ve done in my view. I think their manager obviously agreed he was lucky because he took him off within seconds of him getting away with the second offence."

League position: 3rd Álvaro Morata scored his first goal after 82 seconds and he became the 17th player to score a Premier League hat-trick for Chelsea. Álvaro Morata scored the Blues' first hat-trick in the Premier League since Diego Costa against Swansea City on 13 September 2014. They had now won eight of their last nine away games in the Premier League. Chelsea manager Antonio Conte said: "It was a good day, a good result for us. Stoke are a really good team and very strong. It was very difficult to win here. We deserved to win the game. We started well and scored early. We were in control of the game. I repeat, it's not simple to win away against them. Morata played a good game. A really good performance. Now he has to continue this way to be a great striker. I think we have to be focused at what we do and not others. We want to fight in every competition we are playing."
