Comments:

League position: 9th Stoke City had now won only one of their 13 Premier League games against teams starting the game at the top of the table (lost ten). All nine of the Potters' wins so far in this Premier League season were against teams currently in 12th position or lower. This was City's first defeat in their last nine home games in the Premier League. Geoff Cameron was booked in the first minute of added time in the second-half. Peter Crouch replaced Ramadan Sobhi in the second minute of added time in the second-half. Phil Bardsley was booked for a second time in the fifth minute of added time in the second-half and subsequently shown the red card. Stoke City manager Mark Hughes said: "Maybe Chelsea were a little bit fortunate not to get a red card themselves. We had people saying that we tried to target Diego Costa, but we didn't do that. It was more likely he targeted our players."

Comments:

League position: 1st Gary Cahill became the first Chelsea player to score a goal and concede a penalty in the same Premier League game since Salomon Kalou at West Ham United on 25 April 2009. The Blues had now won 19 of their 21 games so far in this Premier League season against the teams currently outside of the top five. Manager Antonio Conte had now used every substitution possible so far in this Premier League season (84 out of 84). The only team to have done so in a completed 38-game Premier League season are Manchester City in 2014-15 under Manuel Pellegrini (114 out of 114). Cesc Fabregas was booked in the fourth minute of added time in the second-half. Chelsea manager Antonio Conte said: "It's not easy at this point of the season to come here, to play in Stoke against a strong team also with good qualities and tactical organisation. It wasn't easy."
