St Lucia withdrew from qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup shortly before their opening group game in Nicaragua four days earlier.
The SLFA President Lyndon Cooper gave several reasons why they could not field a team, stating that at no time did the SLFA convey the impression that a national team was in training: "I would have to explain as to how we found ourselves where we are today. I have to take you as far back as 2018."
