Comments:

League position: 18th Southampton avoided become the first-ever team in the top division to fail to win any of their opening seven home league games in consecutive seasons. The Saints avoided equalling their club record of nine home games without a win in the Premier League set in April 2018. Their last ten goals in the Premier League had now been scored by Danny Ings (six) and James Ward-Prowse (four). This was the second time in their last 44 games in the Premier League that Southampton had won after trailing at half-time. Shane Long made his 300th appearance in the Premier League in this game (53 goals).

Comments:

League position: 20th After only ten Premier League games in charge, manager Quique Sánchez Flores was sacked the following day. This became the earliest date that a club had dismissed two permanent managers since the start of a season in the Premier League (previously 8 December 2004 by Southampton, sacked Paul Sturrock and Steve Wigley). The Hornets had now taken eight points from their 14 games so far in this Premier League season; their lowest total at this stage of a season in the top division. They failed in their attempt to win consecutive away games in the Premier League for the first time since September 2017. Watford had now lost 11 of their last 18 games in the Premier League (won one).
