Comments:

League position: 19th This was the first time that Southampton had conceded five or more goals in a game since their record-breaking 9-0 defeat by Leicester City on 25 October 2019. The Saints' only win in their 22 opening home games of a Premier League season remained as a 3-2 success against Blackburn Rovers on 21 August 2004. Danny Ings had now scored 12 goals in the Premier League in 2020; only Liverpool's Mohamed Salah (13) had scored more Southampton were awarded a penalty after 88 minutes following a VAR review for handball.

Comments:

League position: 6th This was the sixth time that a Tottenham Hotspur player had scored four or more goals in a game in the Premier League and the third in an away game in the division (also Jurgen Klinsmann at Wimbledon in May 1998 and Harry Kane at Leicester City in May 2017). This was the first time that Spurs had scored five or more goals in a game since a 5-0 win against Burnley in the Premier League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 7 December 2019. They avoided losing both of their opening two games of a season in the Premier League for the first time since 2011-12. Harry Kane scored after three minutes but the goal was disallowed after a VAR review due to an offside decision.
