On 19 May 2026, Southampton were expelled from participating in the League Championship Play-off Final after admitting to multiple breaches of spying on opposing team's training sessions throughout the League Championship season. They were also subject to a four point deduction to take effect from the start of the 2026-27 season.

They became the first club to be charged with breaking EFL Regulations 3.4 and 127.1 which prohibits the observation of another club’s training session within 72 hours of a scheduled match.
