Comments:

League position: 11th Southampton had now lost 11 Premier League games in 2017; as many as they had lost in 2016. The Saints had now failed to score in eight of their last nine home games in the Premier League. They had now won three of their last 14 games in the Premier League. Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino said: "I don't like to talk about good luck or bad luck because we have to score goals and we couldn't, but at the same time I think we played a good game. In general we control the game against Man United - a team that it is really difficult to control even when they are defending, because in counter-attack they are really good, they have got pace, they are in direct play really strong. I think we did 90% of the things we were working on and, against these type of teams, you have to play really well, really close to excellent to win games."

Comments:

League position: 2nd Romelu Lukaku had now scored in seven of his eight appearances for Manchester United in all competitions. Romelu Lukaku equalled Louis Saha's club record of scoring six goals in his first six Premier League appearances. With sixteen points from their opening six games, this was now United's best start to a Premier League season since 2011-12. Manchester United manager José Mourinho said: "The weather was beautiful. Even if you train at 11 a.m., 12 p.m., 3 p.m. in Manchester, we don't get this weather. Seriously. The last time we had this was in Los Angeles and then in Macedonia, and they felt it. I saw some players not sharp. Great spirit and always trying, but not the same sharpness. So if your opponent is coming with everything against you, let's do it for ten or 15 minutes and stay solid. We are better this season than last. But this is nothing. It's just a start. I really think that six teams are going to fight for the title."
