Comments:

This was Southampton's biggest home defeat since a 0-6 drubbing by Brentford in League Division Three on 9 March 1959, so their biggest-ever defeat at St Mary's. Sadio Mane's goal was timed at 39 seconds. It was the quickest goal in the competition in this season.

Comments:

This was Liverpool's biggest away win since a 6-0 victory at Newcastle United in the Premier League on 27 April 2013. It was their biggest away win in the League Cup competition since 29 November 2000 when a 8-0 thrashing of Stoke City in the Worthington Cup included a hat-trick by Robbie Fowler. These were Divock Origi's first goals for the Reds. It was the first time a player had opened their goals account for them with a hat-trick since Ronny Rosenthal in a 4-0 win at Charlton Athletic in League Division One on 11 April 1990. Daniel Sturridge had now scored six goals in his last five appearances in the League Cup competition.
