The previous record holder was Paul Jones who went 666 minutes without conceding in the 2000-01 season. Chelsea's opener was the first goal Fraser Forster had conceded in the Premier League since Diego Costa scored for Chelsea in the 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge on 15 March 2015. The Saints had won five of their preceding six Premier League games. James Ward-Prowse replaced Matt Targett after Chelsea had scored their second goal.
