Comments:

League position: 13th Southampton had now failed to score in nine of their last 12 home games in the Premier League. The Saints had now won four of their last 19 games in the Premier League. They now had not won consecutive home games in the Premier League since December 2016. Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino said: "It’s a really painful game because I think we were much better than them in all different aspects of the game; defensively, on set plays and with the ball. We had a number of possibilities to convert chances, but that was the only aspect in which they were better than us. They were clinical in converting the chance that they had."

Comments:

League position: 7th Burnley had now kept clean sheets in five of their last eight games in the Premier League. The Clarets had now taken 11 points from their away games so far in this Premier League season, all gained against teams that they lost at in the previous season and who finished in the top eight. Their 11 games had produced 18 goals (ten for and nine against); the fewest so far in this Premier League season. Responding to speculation linking him to the managerial vacancy at Everton, Burnley manager Sean Dyche said: "To be honest, the story's come around and it's out of my hands. It's a story that's away from me, although it's about me at the moment I just keep getting on with my business, as I have been doing for five years. I've had numerous times when I've been linked with situations and I just continue to see it clearly and that is to work hard at what I do."
