Comments:

League position: 12th Southampton had now won only three of their last 12 Premier League games against Aston Villa (lost four). In all competitions, following an eight game unbeaten run, the Saints were now winless in their last four games. It follows a similar pattern to the first-half of the previous season when, after losing only two of their first 15 games, they then lost five games in a row.

Comments:

League position: 20th With this result, Aston Villa had set new club record of 14 consecutive league games without a win (lost 11). The previous record of 13 games had been established as recently as between March and September in 2012. Villa had now dropped ten points from leading positions so far in this season; a joint divisional-high with Newcastle United. With this draw, they picked up their first away point since their 1-0 win at AFC Bournemouth on the opening day of the season. This was the first time Villa had drawn an away game since the 1-1 at Burnley in the Premier League on 29 November 2014. Gabriel Agbonlahor replaced Carlos Sanchez in the fifth minute of added time in the second half.
