League position: 4th This was Southampton's first Premier League win against Arsenal in 11 attempts since November 2002.

League position: 6th Arsenal have now failed to keep a clean sheet in their seven games in all competitions since the reverse fixture with Southampton at the Emirates Stadium on 3 December 2014 which they won 1-0. This was only Arsenal's second defeat in the Premier League on a New Year's Day. They also lost at Charlton Athletic in 2001.
