A team of Probables and Improbables were chosen by the SFA on 9 March 1886. A first eleven was then chosen to play England on 23 March, the remaining eleven were to play Wales.
Comments:
The Scottish FA insisted that James Henry Forrest wore a different-coloured shirt to the rest of the England team.
The Scots were still dominated by the gentlemen-amateurs of Queens' Park FC who objected to playing against a professional.
Forrest was receiving £1 a week from Blackburn Rovers.
His club also had to agree not to pay him his wages this week.
There is no record of what Forrest wore in this match but he probably wore his club shirt.
