Comments:

Portugal filled all four positions in Group F during the course of this game. They finished in third place and qualified for the knockout stages as one of the four best third place teams. Cristiano Ronaldo had now equalled Ali Daei of Iran’s all-time record of 109 international goals. He had also now scored more goals than any other European player at major tournaments (21 at FIFA World Cup finals and UEFA European Championship finals); the record was previously held by Germany’s Miroslav Klose (20). Portugal had now lost three of their last 32 games (won 19).

Comments:

France had now finished as group winners in all four major tournaments under manager Didier Deschamps. Les Bleus now remained unbeaten in their last ten games at major tournaments (won seven). Karim Benzema scored his first goals for France since 8 October 2015 against Armenia; a gap of five years and 258 days.
