Comments:

League position: 13th Newcastle United had still to win a Premier League game when they had been two or more goals behind at half-time (drawn three, lost 65). They had now lost their last four games in the Premier League and scored only one goal. The Magpies conceded three goals in a league game at St James' Park for the first time since 11 March 2017 in a 1-3 defeat to Fulham in the League Championship. Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez said: “We made a couple of mistakes and we paid for that. They had a couple of runs down their left which were difficult to control. We were pushing in the first-half, we were on top for a while, but then didn’t score. We have to realise where we are, what we have, where we want to be. I have said before, it is going to be a tough season and we have to keep working as hard as possible."

Comments:

League position: 8th Watford had now won more away Premier League points in their seven games so far in this season (13) than they did in 19 away games in 2016-17 (12). This was their biggest away victory in the top division since a 5-1 win at Chelsea in May 1986. 21 points from 13 games equalled their best ever start to a top division season (also 1982-83 when they finished second under Graham Taylor). Watford manager Marco Silva said: "It was a really important win for us. We got an important result, and important three points, a second win in a row, a second clean sheet in a row as well is important for us. I think it's clear we deserved the three points. We planned the match very well. We planned well and our players understood well and it's a pleasure for us when we prepare something and afterwards, things happen well during the match. We had a lot of chances to score more goals this afternoon. We created a lot of chances to score and we could have scored more and should have scored more during the match."
